EXAMINATION REGULATIONS FOR STUDENTS

1.     YOU MUST BE PUNCTUAL for all your examinations.   Students must ensure that they report to the examination venue on time. Once the examination begins, no one will be allowed into the examination venue without seeking authorisation from the Dean’s Office. Once the examination starts, be it written, oral or practical examination, any request later than 30 minutes after the examination start time will not be entertained.

2.    YOU ARE REMINDED THAT:

3       You must not talk to or disturb other candidates once the examination has started. The Chief Invigilator of your examination venue will report to the Exams Office all cases of irregularity or misconduct in the examination room.

4.  If the Chief Invigilator suspects that you are involved with any attempts or acts of irregularity, misconduct or dishonesty, you will be subject to disciplinary actions, including disqualification from the current examinations and/or dismissal from the college, by the School’s Academic Dishonesty Committee.

5.     You should note that impersonation of another candidate for an examination is a criminal offence.

Dates of Examinations

1.    The times and dates of examinations are final and are posted by the Examinations Office on the Examinations Notice Board.

2.       Wrong reading of the examination timetable is NOT ACCEPTABLE for absence in an examination.

Venue for Examinations

1.      The venue for examinations can be a room, a hall or an area designated by the Examinations Office or the purpose of conducting examinations. 

2.  Only examinations candidates and officials concerned are permitted within the venue during the examination period.

Entering and Leaving the Examination Venue

1.    Candidates for an examination can only enter or leave the Examinations Room with the permission of the Chief Invigilator.

2.   The Chief Invigilator may give the signal for candidates to enter the Examinations Room 10 or 15 minutes ahead of the examinations for the candidates to fill in the attendance slips and to listen to announcements.

3.    On entering the Examinations Room, go to your seat and sit down.  SILENCE MUST BE OBSERVED.  If you talk to another candidate, you may be charged with cheating.  If you have any queries, raise your hand to get the attention of the invigilator.

4.    Pencil boxes, wallets, hand phones / cellular phones are to be closed / switched off and put on the floor.

5.    Electronic dictionaries or other written documents are not allowed in the examination venue.

Before the Start of an Examination

1.    Make sure that your handphone is switched off before entering the Exam venue. After sitting down, place your writing materials, ruler, eraser, etc on the desk. Put your pencil box, wallets and handphone on the floor. Make sure that your handphone is switched off and put face down.  Place your Student Identity Card and Resit Slip (if any) on the left hand top corner of your desk.  A student without a Student Identification Card must obtain verification from the Office of Admissions and Records by completing a verification form.

2.    Do not start doing anything concerning the examinations until told to do so.  Listen to announcements and follow the instructions given by the invigilators.

3.    Amongst the announcements will be the following warning:

     Warning:

ANY CANDIDATE WHO HAS BROUGHT INTO THIS ROOM/HALL ANY UNAUTHORISED MATERIALS, PLEASE STAND BESIDE YOUR DESK, HAND THEM TO ME NOW.  I HAVE BEEN DIRECTED TO REPORT TO THE EXAMINATIONS OFFICE ALL SUSPECTED CASES OF CHEATING FOR DISCIPLINARY HEARING.  THESE INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

a)    GIVING OR RECEIVING ASSISTANCE DURING THE EXAMINATION,

b)    HAVING PREPARED NOTES,

c)    CREATING DISTURBANCE,

d)    ATTEMPTING TO CHEAT”.

e)    USING HANDPHONE OR OTHER FORMS OF COMMUNICATION DEVICES.”

 Reminder:

NO CANDIDATE IS ALLOWED TO LEAVE THE EXAMINATION ROOM FOR THE FIRST HALF AN HOUR AND THE LAST HALF AN HOUR OF THE EXAMINATION.

4.    Follow the instructions of the invigilator, fill in the attendance slip and complete and sign the declaration printed on the front page of your answer booklet.

5.    Do not start answering the examinations questions until the invigilator gives the signal to do so.

6.    Candidates who are more than half an hour late will not be allowed to sit for their examination.

During the Examinations

1.   If you have any queries concerning the examinations, raise your hand to get the attention of the invigilator and tell him or her in a normal voice your problems.

2.    If you have to use the washroom, raise your hand and inform the invigilator.  You will be accompanied to a designated washroom.

3.   The invigilators will go round the room to verify the candidates and at the same time, collect the attendance slip.

4.    About five minutes before the examination ends, the following announcement will be made: “THERE ARE FIVE MINUTES LEFT FOR THE EXAMINATION”.

5.  Candidates are not allowed to leave the examination venue during the last half hour of the examination

At the End of the Examination

1.    The invigilator will announce the following:

     “THE EXAMINATION HAS ENDED.  PLEASE STOP WRITING AND TIE UP YOUR ANSWER 

     SCRIPTS.  THE OBJECTIVE ANSWER SHEET MUST BE INSERTED IN BETWEEN YOUR 

     ANSWER SCRIPTS.” 

2.    Candidates must stop writing on the invigilator’s instruction.

3.    Although your examination has ended, silence must be observed because examinations in the next hall may still be on.

4.    After you have tied up your answer scripts, sit quietly and wait for your scripts to be collected.

5.    Do not take out any used or unused examination materials such as loose sheets, graph paper, etc.

6.    Leave the Examinations Room / Hall in an orderly manner only when permission is given by the invigilator.
